Pederson’s homer lifts Giants over sliding Phillies in 11 | Spostson Joc Pederson’s   two-run homer in the 11th inning helped power the San Francisco Giants to a 7-4 victory over the struggling Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night. Luis Gonzalez had a career-high four hits as San Francisco won its third straight overall and second consecutive extra-inning game. After a fielding error by Jeurys Familia allowed Wilmer Flores to score in the 10th to give San Francisco a 4-3 lead, Philadelphia tied it when Alec Bohm’s two-out grounder up the middle hit the second base bag, bouncing over Thairo Estrada and allowing pinch-runner Roman Quinn to score. But the Giants scored three times in the 11th and sent the Phillies to their fifth straight loss. Donovan Walton doubled in automatic runner Joey Bart to make it 5-4. With two outs, Pederson smacked his 12th homer of the season — a towering shot off Andrew Bellatti (1-2) to the second deck in deep right center. “It was one...

JUVENTUS’ VLAHOVIC DROPS SHIRT CHANGE HINT WITH INSTAGRAM UPDATE | NIKHILODIEN

Image
JUVENTUS’ VLAHOVIC DROPS SHIRT CHANGE HINT WITH INSTAGRAM UPDATE | Nikhilodien Juventus  forward Dusan Vlahovic has dropped a hint he could lose his No. 7 shirt by dropping it from his Instagram profile. Where the Serbia international’s profile read “DV7” it now simply has “DV.” Vlahovic inherited the No. 7 shirt vacated by Cristiano Ronaldo, when he left the club at the start of the campaign. The decision could mean Vlahovic moved to No. 9 which would become available if Alvaro Morata is not at the club next season. Morata is on loan at Juve from Atletico Madrid and the Bianconeri have the option to make the move permanent for €35 million but recent reports in Spain and Italy suggests they are unwilling to pay that fee. Vlahovic joined Juve from  Fiorentina  in January and wore the No. 9 for La Viola, where he scored 17 goals from 21 appearances in the first half of the campaign. After a bright start to life at Juve, his numbers dried up and he finis...

Pressure mounting on McLaren’s Ricciardo | Nikhilodien Daniel Ricciardo  McLaren boss Zak Brown said on Friday, after announcing that their IndyCar team had extended their agreement with Pato Award, who is eyeing a Formula 1 seat, had not delivered the hoped-for results in Formula 1. McLaren has taken care of some work ahead of the Indy 500 on Sunday by extending O’Ward’s contract until the end of 2025 in a deal that will include some F1 testing for the 23-year-old from Mexico and a new McLaren sports car as the bonus signature car. McLaren’s commitment to O’Ward would be a warning to underperforming Ricciardo, who has managed to finish by one point in six Formula One races this season and had a nightmarish start at Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix by crashing into training on Friday. The Australian is under contract until 2023 but Brown said there are “mechanisms” in place that could influence the negotiations. Brown, who is in Indianapolis where the McLaren Arrow will ...

Perez wins chaotic Monaco GP, Ferrari blows it for Leclerc | Nikhilodien Sergio Perez rebounded from Red Bull team orders that denied him a chance to race for the win one week ago to pick up his first Formula One win of the season in the rain-marred Monaco Grand Prix. Perez earned his third career F1 victory on the slick city streets of Monaco after a questionable strategy call by Ferrari cost pole-sitter Charles Leclerc a win on his home circuit. Although Leclerc finished the race for the first time in four tries, he finished fourth and allowed reigning world champion Max Verstappen to extend his lead in the points standings. Carlos Sainz Jr. finished second for Ferrari and Verstappen was third for Red Bull. Verstappen now leads Leclerc by nine points in the standings; Leclerc has two wins this season, Verstappen and Perez have combined for five victories as Red Bull and Ferrari have claimed all seven races. But the win went to Verstappen's teammate just one week after Per...

Comparing Ivan Perisic’s 2021-22 stats to Tottenham’s wing-backs | Nikhilodien After deciding to stay at Tottenham, Antonio Conte now looks set to make Ivan Perisic his first signing of the summer. Conte, who has reportedly  told Spurs to aim to sign at least six or seven first-team players, previously worked with Perisic at Inter Milan. The manager initially deemed Perisic surplus to requirements and sent him on loan to Bayern Munich, where he  won the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB-Pokal in 2019-20.  He was then brought back into the Inter squad by Conte, who  deployed him at left wing-back. The Croatia international made 42 appearances in all competitions and  helped them win the Serie A title in 2020-21. “We sent Perisic to Bayern because he was not prepared to do the defending work I had asked for. He returned with a different mentality,” Conte said in May 2021. “I asked him the same things as last season, but he showed that he ha...

A steward has confirmed that a substance was sprayed in the direction of supporters The police are equipped with riot shields, helmets and pepper spray and have run toward a group of Liverpool fans. Minnesota, San Jose exit Open Cup; LA Galaxy take El Trafico over LAFC

Image
Minnesota, San Jose exit Open Cup; LA Galaxy take El Trafico over LAFC | Sportson Only one MLS team has won more regular-season games since LAFC joined the league in 2018. However, none of those victories have come at Dignity Health Sports Park, the team's most frequent travel venue. LAFC will make the short drive to Carson again Wednesday to face  the Galaxy  in a match that will have no impact on the  MLS standings  but is of massive importance everywhere else. The game will mark the first meeting of the neighborhood rivals in the  U.S. Open Cup , the oldest soccer competition in the country, and there will be more at stake than bragging rights since the winner will go on to the tournament quarterfinals and the loser goes home. “All my teammates, coaching staff, know that no matter if it's in the league, or Open Cup or a friendly, these kinds of games [are] special,” LAFC midfielder Ilie Sánchez said. “It's especially important for us knowing that tomorr...
