 AS Adema 149–0 SO l'Emyrne

Sportson:- Adema AS 149-0 The SO l'Emyrne football game took place on October 31, 2002, in Antananarivo, Madagascar, between two teams. According to The Guinness Book of Records, it has the highest scoreline in the world. In retaliation for refereeing decisions that went against them during a four-team playoff event, SO l'Emyrne (SOE) purposely lost the game against their bitter rivals AS Adema. The game broke the previous mark for the greatest score, which was achieved in the Scottish Cup match between Arbroath and Bon Accord in 1885 when the score was 36-0. [1]

Overview

The contest was a part of a round robin competition amongst four teams to decide the national champion. After SOE, the league's defending champions, were kept to a 2-2 tie by DSA Antananarivo in their penultimate game—during which the referee gave a late and disputed penalty—Adema won the league championship.

Because of that draw, SOE was eliminated from the title contest. Since the championship had already been decided, SOE made the decision to object; other reports claim that the SOE coach and the referee had a disagreement. According to spectators, SOE purposefully scored 149 own goals. After each kickoff, the ball was reportedly kicked into their own goal, leaving the opponent players stunned and bewildered. According to reports, onlookers flocked to the ticket windows to get refunds. [2]

Following the game, the Malagasy Football Federation (FMF) suspended SOE's coach, Zaka Ratsarazaka, for three years. Additionally, four of the team's players—defender Mamisoa Razafindrakoto, SOE captain Manitranirina Andrianiaina, player Nicolas Rakotoarimanana, and goalkeeper Dominique Rakotonandrasana—were suspended until the end of the season and barred from entering stadiums All other players from both teams were issued warnings and threats of worse punishment if they continued their infractions.

The referee received no discipline because it was determined that the circumstances were beyond his control, but Madagascar's sports minister did dissolve the FMF, which was eventually reestablished.

• Barbados prevails 4–2 The unorthodox golden goal rule was used in Grenada, where a Barbadian defender intentionally scored his own goal to help his team win by two goals in extra time.

• Thailand 3-2 Indonesia, where an Indonesian defender purposefully scored an own goal to prevent his team from having to play the host Vietnam in the 1998 Tiger Cup semifinals.
